The house is a 1930's brick built semi-detached with a pitched roof, the issue is that in the loft two feet of the ridge board (in the section where it comes out of the party wall) is very damp/wet as is one of the rafters that is against the party wall. On the chimney there is a medium sized horizontal crack under what appears to be two fake bricks (or it might be red coloured cement). This crack needs to be sealed and might be corrected with new cement mixed with PVA and/or by inserting new imperial red bricks in place (the latter would probably be the best long term solution, I have spare bricks).
